Beta Gamma Sigma

Todd Getting his award.

Congratulations to Todd for being inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma today! It's an honorary club for Business students in the top 10% of their class, so naturally, Todd was invited. There were about 40 students there and they had a small ceremony for them giving them a certificate and a Beta Gamma Sigma pin. Todd's grandparents, his parents and I all went. To top off a great morning we went to Crackers for breakfast which was SO good!

Go Mom!

Congrats to my mom who not only got re-elected for City Council, but got first in the polls!!! Out of 3 people, she got first! I am so proud of her. She has been in some kind of elected office for about 18 years now....crazy, I know. Here is her bio on The City of Whittier website. Go MOM!!!

Council Member Cathy Warner

Cathy Warner was elected to the City Council in 2004. She has lived in Whittier since 1948, her family has been here since 1920. She and her husband Dave have seven children and 20 grandchildren. Cathy attended John Greenleaf Whittier & Longfellow Elementary Schools, Dexter & East Whittier Junior High Schools and graduated from California High School. She received an A.A. Degree from Fullerton Junior College and a B.S. in Dental Hygiene from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She and her husband practice periodontics in their Whittier-based office. She has previously served on the City's Cultural Arts Commission for 2 years, the East Whittier City School District Governing Board for 2 years, the Whittier Union High School District Board of Trustees for 12 years, and the Tri-Cities ROP Governing Board for 6 years. She has also been a member of the Project Area Committee for the Whittier Blvd. Commercial Corridor Redevelopment Project Area.
It's amazing how she has done all this, raised 7 kids, worked part time, fulfilled her church callings, and so many other things, and has still been a wonderful mom. I love you Mom, and Im so proud of you!

We had an exciting event happen this week...Todd got accepted to his first Law School! Its DePaul University!!!! Its located in DOWNTOWN Chicago. How cool is that!?! But of course we don't know for sure, we have to wait to hear from some other schools to make our final decision, but it is such a relief to know that we are accepted somewhere! So congrats to Todd for all his hard work paying off!

Yard Sale

Yesterday we had our first yard sale! It was quite an interesting experience. Our neighborhood does a big one every 6 months and finally we decided to join in. We sold some stuff like old pictures, old exercise equipment, clothes, belts, dishes, lamps, baby gates, games, video games, vacuums, and tried to sell our treadmill, but apparently in the yard sale world $500 is like like asking for 1 million dollars. I think we are going to sell it on craigs list and see how that whole thing pans out. It was very fun though....we started at 6am and of course the people started showing up right at 6. We went until 10, and by that time we were just giving everything away! We did have a funny experience...how can you not in this kind of situation....an old man came by and was interested in something and couldn't make up his mind, so he lingered around for quite some time. He hung out with us for like 30 minutes in our garage and he proceeded to smoke constantly which filled up my house with the smell and all the clothes that were for sale...gross. Then he said he had to go to the bathroom, didn't ask, just said he had to, so we felt obligated to offer him ours. So after he used it I go in and of course he didn't flush the toilet or put the seat down...disgusting. This man is a total stranger! So finally we talk about what he is buying and we finally tell him he can have it for 10 dollars less, so immediately he pays us and leaves. It was like the whole time he was just buttering us up to try to get a lower price! These yard sale buffs are crazy!

Curse of the Anti-Sunday Garage Door

Yes, there is a curse on my house. In particular, on my garage door. I have NO idea why, and I promise, I am not exaggerating AT ALL.....but every Sunday when we leave for church, our garage door does not close. I usually try about 3 times, and each time it will go down about 2 feet and go right back up. The weirdest thing is though, it only happens on Sundays! It NEVER does this any other day! AND....the rest of Sunday it works fine. Only when we are leaving for church does it not close. So every week while we are at church, you can go by our house and find our garage wide open. It has been going on for some time now, and me and Todd almost count on it each week, because we dont want the streak to end, because it is so weird. Something's going on here and I NEED to find out whats up!
